Metro Council Approves FY 2026 Budget
After several weeks of budget hearings, Louisville Metro Council voted 21-4 to approve the FY 2025-2026 and voted 20-4 (with one abstention by Councilwoman McCraney) to approve the . The final documents were largely reflective of the budget proposed by Mayor Craig Greenberg in his address on April 24. Metro Council focused much of their efforts on investments in public safety, infrastructure improvements, and the ongoing housing crisis. GLI appreciates the intentional discussions held over the last eight weeks to finalize this budget and the city’s investment in GLI’s economic development work for the region. Here are some highlights from the final FY 2025-2026 budgets: Ìý
Public Safety:Ìý
- $546,000 dollars toward Group Violence Intervention (GVI).Ìý
- $885,000 dollars for the Office of Violence Prevention Fund.Ìý
- $3,731,800 dollars for Youth Transitional Services.Ìý
- $6 million for First Responders Training Facility.Ìý
Infrastructure:Ìý
- $12.5 million for the Affordable Housing Trust Fund.Ìý
- $30 million for street paving. Ìý
- $1 million for alley paving. Ìý
- $2 million for sidewalk repairs. Ìý
- $4.4 million for new vehicles and equipment for Public Works & Assets. Ìý
- Additional funding across departments for street and road safety projects, including money for structural repair, guardrail replacement, traffic control, signage, and pavement markings. Ìý
